Elisabeth Preston and the Cider House Rules

“You know why I want to marry? It’s nice to change your name once in a while. Like, when you’re called Elisabeth. ‘Cause your parents thought it would go nicely with Preston. And there are thousands of other Elisabeth Prestons in the world and they’re just as polite as you are. And you meet one of those Elisabeth Prestons and your own name is Elisabeth Preston and everyone is just confused as to which Elisabeth Preston you are.
And the point is actually that Elisabeth goes with Larch as well, you know.”
“Elisabeth Preston is a book. And Larch is the surname of Dr. Wilbur Larch. The Cider House Rules. John Irving. Are you kidding me?”
“But you agree on the simple fact that it is nice to change your name once in a while?”
Das ist ein Ausschnitt aus einer meiner aktuelleren Geschichten. Ich weiß noch nicht so recht, was ich davon halten soll. Das sieht man dann wohl. Ich mag die Geschichte, irgendwie. Und den Ausschnitt.
